For this classroom task we were handed a bag of props/junk and assigned to a studio space. Our setup sign had been placed on the floor, so that was where we had to shoot. Our junk included just two items: a plastic picnic sheet and metallic gold plates.
We originally intended on creating a beauty shot of our designated model Clare, surrounding by a “cute” picnic scene, shot from above. However, a lecturer intervened and implied our imaginations were non existent.
To make more “FUN!” use of the props we were given, we changed our idea. We cut up the sheet into the shape of an umbrella, cut our “setup” sign into raindrops, used the gold plates as both the handle and spokes of the umbrella as well as the sun peeking out from an old bedsheet we used as a cloud.
We shot it from above with one light with snoot
I did the editing afterwards - I added some curves, a blue tint which I masked over the sun, then added an orange glow - then masked everything but the sun itself.
